On Tuesday this past week, Marcus had to learn a very hard lesson in accountability. He was playing at his friend Dillon's house. Marcus, Dillon, and his older sister were playing baseball in the back yard. When it was time to clean up they were putting all the equipment in the laundry room. There was an open window. So instead of Marcus taking the bat and walking around to the door decided it would be a good idea to throw the bat through the open window. This must be a better way, after all it might save me having to walk 10 extra steps that day. Well, it turned out to not be such a good idea when the at missed the opening and went right through the window.
When I got there to pick up Marcus this is the news I was greeted by. I of course told Dillon's Mom we would pay for it to be fixed. On the way home I explained to Marcus that "We" would not be paying, "He" would be paying. If this had been an accident he would have to help, but since this was just poor judgement he would have to pay for the whole thing.
He has been doing his chores religiously to earn his allowance, he has even taken on extra jobs in the neighborhood to earn a little more. He was saving his money for something special. Now all his hard-earned money is going to pay for a new window. All that for 10 lousy steps. This was a hard lesson, but we all have to learn it sometime.

It's so hard to discipline sometimes, but it teaches them how to be good kids. Good job on keeping to it- that can be the hardest part sometimes!
