I went in for my routine 36 week apt on Thursday and my blood pressure was a lot higher than normal. Not yet dangerously high, but at the top end of the normal range. This was the first time they mentioned Preeclampsia. I have been very swollen for a while now, but until Thursday was just considered routine swelling. Now they think it may have to do with signs of preeclampsia. They cut me down to 4 hour work days and told me to take it very easy at home. This is difficult for me, but Marcus is being very helpful. They are monitoring me very close for a while to see if it gets worse. The only cure for it is to deliver the baby. If it gets worse they may have to induce me...we really don't want this as we have been so immersed in the natural childbirth process. Please keep Garrett and I in your prayers. For those of you unfamiliar with preeclampsia...
Preeclampsia is a disorder that occurs only during pregnancy and the postpartum period and affects both the mother and the unborn baby. Affecting at least 5-8% of all pregnancies, it is a rapidly progressive condition characterized by high blood pressure and the presence of protein in the urine. Swelling, sudden weight gain, headaches and changes in vision are important symptoms; however, some women with rapidly advancing disease report few symptoms.
